At the edge of the English Lake District, where the mountains are left behind and the water from its famous lakes flow into the sea, are the design studios, workshops and original showrooms of The Rusland Movement...

With its close links and intimate association with renowned, World famous artists, literary greats and philosophers of the past, the Lake District and Cumbria remains a stunning backdrop and source of inspiration for today’s artisan creators, writers and visual artists. Drawing upon this rich heritage are the craftsmen and women of The Rusland Movement.

From humble beginnings as a small workshop, slowly building a reputation for producing fine furniture, made in the traditional way by just two cabinetmakers, much has changed. The company has grown to include a select group of highly skilled crafts people, devoted to their professions and committed to innovative design built to the most exacting standards, guaranteeing the creation of future classic pieces of furniture and objets d’art.

Everything emanating from The Rusland Movement studios is destined to stand the test of time, becoming an heirloom of the future, having been built upon a profound respect for the heritage of our predecessors.

“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” William Morris

The Rusland Movement is a group of dedicated craftsmen and designers, all of whom are based in Cumbria. They invest their heart and soul in all that they create, designing and making beautifully elegant, commissioned pieces of furniture, destined to become heirlooms.

Their design studio is under the same roof as their workshop, meaning the designer of your commission is on hand to oversee every step of the construction process, almost all of which is done by hand. Whilst this may take more time, it ensures exceptional attention to detail and thus the remarkable work for which they have become renowned.

Attention to detail applies not only to the approach to making your furniture, but also the mastering of the skills needed in its creation. All of this takes time, experience, devotion to the craft and the use of only the finest materials.

Traditional skills of cabinetmaking are upheld, with each craftsman having served their time, and each apprentice receiving direct in-depth training, ensuring the future of their profession.

At The Rusland Movement showrooms, clients can expect to see sample pieces of furniture, exhibited to inspire their own commissioned pieces of heirloom furniture and as confirmation of the outstanding craftsmanship upon which The Rusland Movement name has been built.
